Girl Scout Programs
Avalon Farm
offers two programs designed to help Girl Scouts get their badges. While
the programs are based on the requirements for Junior badges, many of the
activities will help Seniors and Cadettes work toward their badges also.
We also welcome Brownie Troops, ages seven and up. We have helped hundreds of scouts learn the basics of horsemanship and get their badges. We are approved and listed with the Westchester-Putnam Girl
Scouts and are fully insured.
Program I-Horse
Fan
$15.00 per child
In an hour-long session,
girls are given a tour of a working horse farm, and learn about the care
that goes in to horses. Scouts see where the horses live, learn about
feeding the horse, and how to keep a horse, healthy, happy and fit. In
addition, the girls will learn about the equipment needed for both horse
and rider, and careers in the horse industry.
Program
II-Horse Rider
$40.00 per child
In a
two-to-three hour session (depending on the number of girls), Scouts will
be give an opportunity learn about horses both on the ground and in the
saddle. The girls are split into small groups and rotate sections.
Besides being shown basic riding skills, Scouts learn to groom and tack up
the horse, the anatomy of a horse, and are shown in detail the equipment
used in riding.
Scouts will need
a release form signed by a parent or guardian, long pants, and a shoe with
a ½ inch heel, such as a hiking boot. A $15 or $40 deposit is required,
depending on the program chosen. ASTM certified helmets will be
provided. To schedule a session for your troop, please contact Jennifer
or Gillian at (845)621-1121 or (914)584-4727.
